Wrecsam Resilience Club History

⚽ The Story of Wrecsam Resilience FC

From Weight Loss to Wellbeing More Than Just a Football Club

Wrecsam Resilience FC first began its journey as a Man v Fat weight loss team, with a mission to get men back onto the pitch, playing the game they love while improving their fitness and health. The initiative received national coverage, helping many find confidence, purpose, and a supportive community through football.

Unfortunately, due to a drop in attendance, the original team was folded in late 2023. But in January 2024, Tomos Hones-Roberts stepped up and successfully restarted the team under the name Wrexham MVF XI. To rebuild interest, only home games were played during the early months. By April 2024, the team had grown to over 20 regular players, with more eager to join.

This rapid growth led to the formation of a second team Wrecsam Devs managed by Joe Chadwick, ensuring every player had fair pitch time. Both teams entered the Northern Tournament:

Wrexham MVF XI competed in the First Team League, making it all the way to the knockout stages – a huge achievement!

Wrecsam Devs played in the Development League, showing promise. However, due to commitment challenges, Joe stepped down, and Chris Hickey took over. The team was renamed Wrecsam Nomads.

In February 2025, with numbers continuing to rise, a third team was formed under the revived Wrecsam Devs name, managed by Aaron Broderick, focused on social games and inclusivity.

🏆 Big Achievements

In May 2025, Wrecsam Nomads reached the league final against Warrington, drawing in regular time and narrowly losing 4-3 on penalties. Despite the result, reaching the final was a huge success, reflecting the passion and effort of both players and management.

Later, some players from Wrexham MVF XI moved on to local league football as their skills and confidence grew, leading the club back to two main teams:

Wrecsam Nomads stepped up as the new First Team

Wrecsam Devs rebranded to CPD Wrecsam Unedig, joining the Development League

💙 A New Era: More Than Just Football

With continued growth, the club has moved beyond Man v Fat and is now proudly established as a wellbeing-focused football club, built around the slogan:

"Men’s Football Mind, Body & Soul"

We’ve introduced a new committee structure, formalized operations, and brought back a third team for social football under the Wrecsam Devs name once again.

We've partnered with Andy’s Man Club, playing a crucial role in supporting mental health.

Our CPD team is proudly sponsored by Ardagh Metal Packaging.

We're now officially affiliated with NEWFA (North East Wales Football Association), part of the FAW (Football Association of Wales).

The club still is part of a weight loss league, held on a Wednesday. Keeping close to our roots and a key part of our identity.

🚀 Looking Ahead

It’s truly incredible to see how far Wrecsam Resilience FC has come from a small weight loss team to a thriving, inclusive, and community-led football club focused on physical health, mental wellbeing, and bringing people together.

We look forward to the future and keeping the momentum going on and off the pitch. ⚽💪
